Sarah Mathena

Sarah Mathena received her PhD in biological anthropology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2023 with a focus on social epidemiology, inequality, and access to health care for women from multidisciplinary perspective. Dr. Mathena has several research interests in the role of intersectionality and sociocultural impacts to clinical outcomes. Specifically, her research explores the impact of medical ‘gaslighting’ as it leads to maladaptive coping patterns in individuals with invisible disabilities, overall health disparities amongst individuals with chronic conditions, and in the role of intersectionality in population health outcomes.
